Gil McDougald hit for the cycle and scored 3 times at Busch Stadium as the

strong So Cal Knights beat the struggling North Bend Tadjers 10 to

4.

McDougald provided much of the offense.  He smacked a single in the 1st

inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 15th of the season) in the 3rd

inning, tripled in the 6th inning and doubled in the 7th inning.  So Cal

finished with 10 hits in the victory.

Robin Roberts(22-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and

allowing 2 runs. Ned Garver(1-5) was the loser.  He gave up 4 runs and 4 hits

in 5 and 2/3 innings.

WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Willie Miranda robbed Jackie Jensen of a base hit.

Bot 8th: Jimmy Piersall robbed Frank House of a Homerun!

Bob Trowbridge came through with a solid 6 innings as the Des Moines Dusters

won at Memorial Stadium in dramatic fashion over the North Bend Tadjers, the

final score, 1 to 0.

The game was decided in the 9th inning.  Billy Bruton reached on an error.

After an out was recorded, Jackie Jensen stepped in and he stroked a single.

Jensen took second on the throw.  Frank Thomas then was walked intentionally

to load the bases.  Frank Malzone was up next and he banged out a single

making Des Moines the winners and sending the 1,095 fans home happy.  Des

Moines had only 6 hits for the night.

The victory was credited to Art Ditmar(4-8) who went 3 innings, allowing no

runs. The loss was charged to Ray Moore(7-17).  It was a tough loss for him

as he did not allow an earned run in his 8 and 1/3 innings of work.

Left fielder Chuck Tanner launched 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI at Briggs Stadium

as the Oneonta Tigers belted the North Bend Tadjers by the count of 18 to

4.

Tanner enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He doubled plating all three

baserunners in the 1st inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 2nd inning,

lined a base-hit in the 4th inning and ripping a solo home run (his 3rd of

the season) in the 8th inning.  Oneonta lit up the scoreboard in the 1st

inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits and the 2nd inning when they had

7 runs on 8 hits.  Oneonta had 21 hits for the night while North Bend had 10.

Jim Wilson(1-1) got the win allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Tom Brewer(1-1) was

hit with the loss.  Tanner was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a

box-score' he joked, 'I want to see how that game looks on paper.'
